Five Days at Disney World: A Park-by-Park Plan

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind averages 69.5 minutes at EPCOT — longer than any single attraction at Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, or Animal Kingdom. Even at its best hour, 10pm, it still averages 49.5 minutes. That one number should shape how you spend a five-day trip: EPCOT is the park where a Lightning Lane reservation matters most, and the other three parks each have their own version of the same lesson.

Here's a five-day plan, one day per park plus a return day, built from what our wait-time data shows for each one.

The four headliners, compared

Park Headliner Avg wait (min) Best hour Worst hour
Magic Kingdom TRON Lightcycle / Run 54.4 8am (34.6 min) 8pm (69.5 min)
EPCOT Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind 69.5 10pm (49.5 min) 7pm (83 min)
Hollywood Studios Slinky Dog Dash 56 10pm (39.4 min) 12pm (64.2 min)
Animal Kingdom Avatar Flight of Passage 49.8 7pm (29.5 min) 8am (66.2 min)

Three patterns worth noticing. First, EPCOT's headliner never gets easy — even its best hour is worse than Animal Kingdom's or Magic Kingdom's best-hour number. Second, Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom's top attractions peak at opposite ends of the day from each other, so the "arrive early" rule that works at Magic Kingdom actively backfires at Animal Kingdom. Third, both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios ease up latest in the evening, near 10pm, which matters if your park choice that day has extended hours.

Day 1: Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom carries the deepest lineup of any Disney World park in our data — 33 tracked attractions, more than double any other park here. That's too much ground to cover well on a single day even with a good plan, which is part of why this itinerary circles back to it on day five.

Attraction Zone Avg wait (min) Best hour
TRON Lightcycle / Run Tomorrowland 54.4 8am (34.6 min)
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Fantasyland 41.1 10pm (31 min)
Peter Pan's Flight Fantasyland 33.6 10pm (20.7 min)
Space Mountain Tomorrowland 31.4 8am (20.6 min)

Park-wide, Magic Kingdom's best hour is 8am (11.3 minutes) and its worst is 7pm (22.7 minutes). Ride TRON and Space Mountain first — both post their lowest averages at 8am — then work through Fantasyland's headliners before midday. For the full ride-by-ride order, see the Magic Kingdom touring plan and the Tomorrowland guide.

Day 2: EPCOT

EPCOT is the day to lead with your Lightning Lane budget. Both of its headliners — Cosmic Rewind and Test Track — stay expensive all day.

Attraction Zone Avg wait (min) Best hour Worst hour
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind World Discovery 69.5 10pm (49.5 min) 7pm (83 min)
Test Track World Discovery 64.5 10pm (40.6 min) 7pm (76.2 min)
Frozen Ever After Norway 45.5 8am (21.5 min) 1pm (57.9 min)
Remy's Ratatouille Adventure France 44 10pm (23.5 min) 4pm (54.8 min)

Park-wide, EPCOT's best hour is 10pm (19.5 minutes) and its worst is 11am (30.3 minutes) — a narrower gap than the other three parks, because EPCOT stays busy most of the day rather than spiking sharply at lunch. Frozen Ever After is the one exception worth targeting early: its best hour is 8am, not evening. For a full walk through World Celebration, Nature, and Discovery, see EPCOT's World Celebration, Nature, and Discovery guide.

Day 3: Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios runs the widest single swing of any park in this plan: its worst hour, noon, averages 40 minutes — nearly double its best hour, 8am, at 20.5 minutes.

Attraction Zone Avg wait (min) Best hour Worst hour
Slinky Dog Dash Toy Story Land 56 10pm (39.4 min) 12pm (64.2 min)
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets Sunset Boulevard 47.5 8am (26 min) 12pm (57.3 min)
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Galaxy's Edge 45.1 10pm (21.3 min) 12pm (58.5 min)
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Sunset Boulevard 37.1 8am (15.2 min) 12pm (48.9 min)

Notice how many of these attractions share the same worst hour: noon. Ride Rock 'n' Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror at rope drop, then hold Rise of the Resistance and Slinky Dog Dash for evening if your day allows it. For the Galaxy's Edge-specific plan, see Hollywood Studios' Galaxy's Edge guide and the Toy Story Land guide.

Day 4: Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom is the outlier in this plan. Its headliner, Avatar Flight of Passage, does the opposite of everything else on this list: its worst hour is 8am and its best is 7pm.

Attraction Zone Avg wait (min) Best hour Worst hour
Avatar Flight of Passage Pandora 49.8 7pm (29.5 min) 8am (66.2 min)
Na'vi River Journey Pandora 33.7 7pm (14.8 min) 12pm (49.9 min)
Kali River Rapids Asia 31.8 8pm (3.3 min) 2pm (49.4 min)
Kilimanjaro Safaris Africa 23.4 7pm (7.1 min) 10am (57.1 min)

Build this day around the afternoon and evening rather than a hard rope drop. Kilimanjaro Safaris and Kali River Rapids both swing hard toward late-day lows, and Pandora's two rides are best done together after 6pm. For the full breakdown, see the Pandora guide and Africa and Asia at Animal Kingdom.

Day 5: back to Magic Kingdom

With 33 tracked attractions, Magic Kingdom has more than double the ride count of any other park in this plan — 33 versus EPCOT's 15, Hollywood Studios' 12, and Animal Kingdom's 10. One day, even a well-planned one, leaves gaps: Frontierland's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (27.4 minutes average) and Tiana's Bayou Adventure (31.2 minutes average), Liberty Square's Haunted Mansion (19.7 minutes), and most of the character-meet lineup rarely fit into a single-park rope-drop day alongside TRON, Space Mountain, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

Use day five to clean up whatever day one didn't reach, and to take a second run at anything that had a longer-than-expected line the first time. For the full Frontierland and Adventureland lineup, see Magic Kingdom's Adventureland and Frontierland guide.

A few more rides worth building in

Beyond each day's headliners, a handful of second-tier rides are worth penciling in specifically because their best and worst hours don't match the headliners' pattern. At EPCOT, Soarin' Around the World (24.9-minute average) posts its best hour at 9am, hours before Cosmic Rewind and Test Track become worth riding — clear it first, not last. At Hollywood Studios, Toy Story Mania! (38.5 minutes) and Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway (36 minutes) both run close to the park's headliners in length; Toy Story Mania!'s best hour is 8am, same as Rock 'n' Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror, so all three fit into one rope-drop sweep. At Animal Kingdom, Kilimanjaro Safaris (23.4 minutes) shares Avatar Flight of Passage's late-day pattern, bottoming out at 7pm, while Expedition Everest (21.1 minutes) is best at 8am — the one Animal Kingdom attraction worth an early start.

Putting the week together

Day Park Focus
1 Magic Kingdom Tomorrowland and Fantasyland headliners at rope drop
2 EPCOT World Discovery headliners, budget Lightning Lane here first
3 Hollywood Studios Rope drop Sunset Boulevard, save Galaxy's Edge for evening
4 Animal Kingdom Afternoon-into-evening plan, Pandora last
5 Magic Kingdom Frontierland, Liberty Square, and anything missed on day 1

This order also spreads your Lightning Lane spending across the trip rather than front-loading it, since EPCOT and Hollywood Studios both carry attractions that stay above 40 minutes for most of the day even at their best hour.

Best day of the week to visit each park

Park Quietest day Busiest day
Magic Kingdom Tuesday (15.3 min) Wednesday (22.4 min)
EPCOT Thursday (25.1 min) Tuesday (29.7 min)
Hollywood Studios Wednesday (28.5 min) Friday (38.6 min)
Animal Kingdom Wednesday (19.6 min) Saturday (26.7 min)

Wednesday is the one day of the week that helps two parks and hurts a third: it's the quietest day at both Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom, but the busiest of the week at Magic Kingdom. If your schedule lets you choose, that argues for a Wednesday at Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom rather than Magic Kingdom, and for saving Magic Kingdom for a Tuesday instead — which happens to also be EPCOT's busiest day, so the two don't compete for the same ideal slot.

For live conditions on the days you're actually there, check each park's page: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. If your trip is shorter, see the two-day Disney World itinerary for a compressed version of the same logic.

Frequently asked questions

Which Disney World park has the longest wait times?
EPCOT has the single longest average wait of any park in our data: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at 69.5 minutes, followed by Test Track at 64.5 minutes.

How many days do you need for all four Disney World parks?
Five days works well if you want a full day per park plus a return day to whichever park has the deepest ride lineup. Magic Kingdom, with 33 tracked attractions, is the strongest candidate for that extra day.

Should I visit Animal Kingdom in the morning or evening?
Lean toward afternoon and evening. Its headliner, Avatar Flight of Passage, has its worst average wait at 8am and its best at 7pm — the opposite pattern from the other three parks.

Is there a day of the week that's good for more than one park?
Wednesday is the quietest day at both Hollywood Studios (28.5 minutes) and Animal Kingdom (19.6 minutes), making it a strong candidate for whichever of those two you visit.

What's the single best hour to be inside any Disney World park?
8am at Magic Kingdom (11.3 minutes) is the lowest park-wide hourly average across all four parks in this plan. Animal Kingdom's 7pm (13.5 minutes) is the next closest, driven by Avatar Flight of Passage and Kilimanjaro Safaris both hitting their best hour at the same time.
