Tomorrowland Guide: TRON, Space Mountain and the Rest

TRON Lightcycle / Run averages a 54.4-minute wait — the longest average wait of any Magic Kingdom attraction in our data, with a peak hourly average of 97 minutes. Even TRON's single best hour, 34.6 minutes at 8am, still runs longer than five of Tomorrowland's other six attractions at their own worst hour.

Tomorrowland has seven tracked attractions, and they split cleanly into two groups: two rides that demand a real strategy, and five that mostly don't. Here's the full breakdown and the order to ride them in.

Tomorrowland ranked by average wait

Attraction Avg wait (min) Peak hourly avg Best hour Worst hour
TRON Lightcycle / Run 54.4 97 8am (34.6) 8pm (69.5)
Space Mountain 31.4 75 8am (20.6) 12pm (42)
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin 28.4 58 8am (8.9) 12pm (39.2)
Tomorrowland Speedway 12.1 26 8am (7.1) 5pm (17.4)
Astro Orbiter 11.7 27 8am (4.9) 7pm (18.3)
Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor 10.1 15 9am (9.9) 10pm (11.2)
Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover 7.5 19 8am (4.9) 8pm (12.5)

Six of these seven attractions post their single best hour at either 8am or 9am. Tomorrowland rewards an early arrival more consistently than almost any other land in the park.

How Tomorrowland stacks up against the rest of Magic Kingdom

Tomorrowland isn't just tough by its own standards — three of its seven attractions place in Magic Kingdom's ten longest average waits park-wide.

Attraction Zone Avg wait (min)
TRON Lightcycle / Run Tomorrowland 54.4
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Fantasyland 41.1
Peter Pan's Flight Fantasyland 33.6
Space Mountain Tomorrowland 31.4
Tiana's Bayou Adventure Frontierland 31.2
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin Tomorrowland 28.4
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Frontierland 27.4
Princess Fairytale Hall Fantasyland 25.2
Jungle Cruise Adventureland 24.4
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh Fantasyland 23.8

TRON isn't just Tomorrowland's hardest ride, it's the longest average wait anywhere in Magic Kingdom, ahead of Fantasyland's Seven Dwarfs Mine Train by more than 13 minutes. Fantasyland places four attractions in this top ten to Tomorrowland's three, but Tomorrowland's three are more concentrated at the top of the list — TRON at #1 and Space Mountain at #4 bracket Peter Pan's Flight, meaning two of the four hardest waits in the entire park sit inside this one land.

On the other end, Tomorrowland's calmest attraction, the PeopleMover at 7.5 minutes, is still busier than Magic Kingdom's single calmest ride park-wide, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel in Fantasyland at 6.4 minutes. There's no true walk-on in Tomorrowland the way there is elsewhere in the park — even its gentlest ride carries a modest line most of the day.

TRON and Space Mountain: the two you can't casually walk into

TRON's swing between best and worst hour is 101% — it more than doubles, from 34.6 minutes at 8am to 69.5 at 8pm. Space Mountain follows an almost identical shape but on a smaller scale: 20.6 minutes at 8am climbing to 42 at 12pm, a 104% swing.

Both rides get worse as the day goes on and don't recover the way some Fantasyland attractions do late at night — neither TRON nor Space Mountain lists 10pm as its best hour. For both, the practical read is the same: ride them at rope drop or accept the peak-hour number later.

Buzz Lightyear: the deceptive one

Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin averages 28.4 minutes — nearly as long as Space Mountain — but its hour-by-hour swing is the most extreme in Tomorrowland. At its best hour, 8am, it averages just 8.9 minutes. At its worst, 12pm, it hits 39.2 minutes — a 340% increase. No other Tomorrowland attraction comes close to that ratio.

That gap is the single most useful number in this guide: Buzz Lightyear looks like a mid-tier, anytime ride based on its overall average, but the data says it behaves like a headliner if you show up after 11am.

The calmer half: Speedway, Astro Orbiter, Laugh Floor, PeopleMover

These four attractions all average 12 minutes or less, and three of the four (Speedway, Astro Orbiter, PeopleMover) post their single best hour at 8am, in the 4.9–7.1 minute range. Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor is the outlier — its best hour is 9am, not 8am, and it's also the flattest ride in the land: just 9.9 minutes at its best versus 11.2 at its worst, a swing of only 13%. If your schedule doesn't line up with the 8am rush for the other three, Laugh Floor is the one ride here that barely punishes a later visit.

An hour-by-hour route through Tomorrowland

  1. At rope drop (8am): This is the single best hour for five of Tomorrowland's seven attractions — TRON, Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, Tomorrowland Speedway, and the PeopleMover. Prioritize TRON and Space Mountain first; their worst-hour numbers (69.5 and 42 minutes) are the most punishing in the land.
  2. Right after, before 9am: Buzz Lightyear at 8.9 minutes and Tomorrowland Speedway at 7.1 minutes are both close to a walk-on. Clear them now — Buzz Lightyear's average more than quadruples by noon.
  3. 9am: Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor's best hour. It's also the flattest ride in the land, so if you miss this window, the cost is small.
  4. Midday (11am–1pm): This is the worst stretch for the two biggest rides — Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear both peak at 12pm (42 and 39.2 minutes). If you haven't ridden them yet, expect the day's longest wait; otherwise, use this window for a meal.
  5. Afternoon (5pm–7pm): Tomorrowland Speedway and Astro Orbiter hit their worst hours here (17.4 minutes at 5pm, 18.3 at 7pm). Neither swing is severe enough to avoid entirely, but it's not the time to add a second lap.
  6. Evening (8pm): TRON's single worst hour, at 69.5 minutes — the highest number anywhere in this guide. This is also the PeopleMover's worst hour (12.5 minutes), though that number stays manageable.

Which day to visit Tomorrowland

Magic Kingdom doesn't publish a Tomorrowland-only day-of-week breakdown, but the park-wide pattern is worth factoring in since it drives foot traffic through every land, Tomorrowland included.

Day Avg wait across Magic Kingdom (min)
Tuesday 15.3
Friday 15.3
Sunday 16.6
Monday 18.2
Saturday 19.3
Thursday 22
Wednesday 22.4

Tuesday and Friday tie as the park's quietest days at 15.3 minutes, while Wednesday is the busiest at 22.4 — a 46% swing between the two ends of the week. If your trip has any flexibility, pairing a Tuesday or Friday visit with an 8am rope drop stacks two of this guide's strongest levers on top of each other: TRON and Space Mountain are already at their best hour that early, and the park as a whole is close to its calmest point of the week too.

Who this Tomorrowland plan is for

This guide is built around riding TRON and Space Mountain, so it's most useful for visitors who want both of Tomorrowland's thrill rides and are willing to structure their morning around them. If your group is skipping those two — because of height requirements, ride intensity, or personal preference — the calmer half of this land tells a different, easier story: Tomorrowland Speedway, Astro Orbiter, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, and the PeopleMover all average 12 minutes or less all day, and none of them punishes a late arrival the way TRON or Space Mountain does. A family touring only the calmer four attractions doesn't need an 8am start in Tomorrowland at all; the biggest single-day cost is skipped by simply not riding TRON and Space Mountain during the midday-to-evening window.

Frequently asked questions

What's the single best hour to be in Tomorrowland? 8am. It's the best hour for five of the land's seven tracked attractions, including both TRON and Space Mountain.

Which ride swings the hardest during the day? Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, by a wide margin — a 340% jump between its 8am low (8.9 minutes) and its 12pm high (39.2 minutes).

Is there a Tomorrowland ride that barely changes all day? Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor. Its best and worst hours are only 1.3 minutes apart (9.9 versus 11.2).

Is TRON tougher than every other Magic Kingdom ride, not just Tomorrowland's? Yes. At 54.4 minutes, it's the single longest average wait anywhere in the park, ahead of Fantasyland's Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (41.1) and Peter Pan's Flight (33.6).

What's the best day of the week to tackle Tomorrowland? Tuesday and Friday, Magic Kingdom's quietest days park-wide at 15.3 minutes average. Wednesday, the busiest day at 22.4 minutes, is the one to avoid if your trip dates are flexible.

The bottom line

Tomorrowland rewards early risers more clearly than any other land in Magic Kingdom: five of its seven attractions hit their single best hour at 8am. TRON and Space Mountain are worth prioritizing first because their worst-hour numbers are the most extreme in the land, and Buzz Lightyear deserves a spot in that early wave too, even though its overall average makes it look skippable.
