Arriving One Hour Earlier Saves You This Much Time

At Hollywood Studios, showing up at 10am instead of 9am costs you 9.1 extra minutes on the average ride — a 34.9% jump in a single hour, the steepest one-hour tax at any Disney park. SeaWorld Orlando and Epic Universe post even bigger percentage jumps, but for Disney guests, Hollywood Studios' 9am hour is the one to protect. Here's what "one hour later" costs at every park in our wait-time data.
The one-hour cost, ranked
We compared each park's park-wide average wait at consecutive morning hours and found the single biggest jump in each park's ramp-up. Here's the steepest hour at each, Disney parks first:
| Park | Hour comparison | Earlier avg | One hour later | Extra minutes | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hollywood Studios | 9am → 10am | 26.1 min | 35.2 min | +9.1 min | +34.9% |
| Magic Kingdom | 8am → 9am | 11.3 min | 14.6 min | +3.3 min | +29.2% |
| Animal Kingdom | 9am → 10am | 21.9 min | 27.4 min | +5.5 min | +25.1% |
| EPCOT | 10am → 11am | 26.2 min | 30.3 min | +4.1 min | +15.6% |
| SeaWorld Orlando | 12pm → 1pm | 16.0 min | 22.3 min | +6.3 min | +39.4% |
| Epic Universe | 9am → 10am | 24.7 min | 34.0 min | +9.3 min | +37.6% |
| Islands of Adventure | 9am → 10am | 14.0 min | 18.8 min | +4.8 min | +34.3% |
| Universal Studios Florida | 10am → 11am | 13.9 min | 18.3 min | +4.4 min | +31.7% |
Five of eight parks post their steepest single-hour jump between 9am and 10am — the window where rope-drop guests have finished their first ride and the general crowd is fully in the building.
The exceptions that don't fit the pattern
Two parks don't follow the "earlier is always better" script cleanly.
SeaWorld Orlando's worst one-hour jump isn't in the morning at all — it's the lunch-hour move from 16.0 minutes at noon to 22.3 minutes at 1pm (+39.4%), the steepest percentage increase of any park on this list. Mornings at SeaWorld barely move: 8am to 9am only costs you 2.2 extra minutes.
Islands of Adventure doesn't punish an 8am arrival over a 9am one — the park-wide average is actually flat between those hours (14.5 min at 8am vs 14.0 min at 9am). The real cost hits an hour later, at the 9am-to-10am jump (+4.8 min, +34.3%). If you're deciding between an 8am and 9am arrival here specifically, it doesn't matter much. Getting in before 10am does.
EPCOT is the most forgiving park on the list for late risers. Its biggest single-hour jump is only +4.1 minutes (+15.6%), less than half the percentage increase at Epic Universe or Hollywood Studios.
What this means for your arrival time
If you're touring Hollywood Studios or Epic Universe, the 9am hour is the one to protect — arriving even 60 minutes late effectively adds a headliner's worth of extra wait to your whole day. At SeaWorld, the priority flips: eat lunch before noon, not after, since 1pm is where the day's biggest jump lands. At Islands of Adventure and Magic Kingdom, a slightly later 8am-ish arrival costs you less than at the other parks — but don't push past 10am.
