9 Rides That Get Dramatically Worse After Lunch

Kali River Rapids averages a 3.3-minute wait at its best hour. By 2pm, our wait-time data puts it at 49.4 minutes — a jump of nearly 1,400%. It's the single most dramatic swing in our data, and it's not alone: a specific set of rides across Disney World and Universal Orlando fall apart in the same noon-to-3pm window, right as lunch crowds pile in.
Here are the nine biggest jumps, ranked by how much worse the worst hour gets compared to each ride's best hour.
The 9 biggest afternoon swings

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kali River Rapids | Animal Kingdom | 8pm (3.3 min) | 2pm (49.4 min) | +1,397% |
| Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls | Islands of Adventure | 9am (7.2 min) | 12pm (55.2 min) | +667% |
| Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry | Epic Universe | 9pm (22.4 min) | 2pm (83.9 min) | +275% |
| Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts | Universal Studios Florida | 10pm (16.1 min) | 3pm (49.5 min) | +207% |
| Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance | Hollywood Studios | 10pm (21.3 min) | 12pm (58.5 min) | +175% |
| Frozen Ever After | EPCOT | 8am (21.5 min) | 1pm (57.9 min) | +169% |
| Peter Pan's Flight | Magic Kingdom | 10pm (20.7 min) | 1pm (43.8 min) | +112% |
| Mine-Cart Madness | Epic Universe | 9pm (57.7 min) | 12pm (108.7 min) | +88% |
| Slinky Dog Dash | Hollywood Studios | 10pm (39.4 min) | 12pm (64.2 min) | +63% |
Every single worst hour on this list falls between noon and 3pm. None of them are outliers scattered across the evening — this is a consistent lunch-into-early-afternoon pattern.
What the "best hour" column tells you
Notice how many best hours land at 9pm or 10pm rather than in the morning. Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls and Frozen Ever After are the exceptions, both quietest right at rope drop. Everything else on this list is calmest close to closing, which means the ride is never really "easy" during the day — it only gets progressively worse from open through early afternoon before finally easing off at night.
That has a practical implication: if you can't ride one of these nine at open, don't wait until "after lunch settles down." For this group, lunch is exactly when things get worse, not better.
How to use this
- Ride Kali River Rapids, Frozen Ever After, and Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls before 11am if they're on your must-do list.
- If you missed the morning window on any of these nine, your next-best option is usually the last hour or two before close, not mid-afternoon.
- Mine-Cart Madness and Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry at Epic Universe post the highest absolute worst-hour waits on this list (108.7 and 83.9 minutes) — plan a Virtual Line or early arrival around those two specifically.
For the hour-by-hour view on any of these attractions, check the relevant park page: Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, or Epic Universe.
