Which Disney Park Punishes Bad Timing the Most?
At Disney's Hollywood Studios, the park-wide average wait is 18.4 minutes at 8am and 37.1 minutes at noon. That gap — 18.7 minutes on every line you join — is the widest of any Walt Disney World park. At EPCOT the same gap is 10.4 minutes. Same resort, same day, and roughly half as much riding on when you walk through the gate.

Two different answers depending on how you measure. In raw minutes, Hollywood Studios is the park where timing matters most: 37.1 − 18.4 = 18.7 minutes. In percentage terms, Animal Kingdom is worse — its worst hour runs 117% above its best, because its floor (12.4 minutes) is so much lower than Hollywood Studios' (18.4 minutes).
Both readings are true, and they point at the same practical advice from different directions. Minutes are what you actually stand in, so minutes are the number to plan around.
What 18.7 minutes actually buys you
Take a family that rides eight attractions in a Hollywood Studios day. The difference between an 8am-weighted day and a noon-weighted one, using the park-wide figures:
8 × 18.7 = 149.6 minutes.
That is just under two and a half hours of standing, on the same park ticket, decided entirely by what hour you spent it. Run the same arithmetic at Magic Kingdom and you get 8 × 9.0 = 72 minutes — real, but a little over half as much.
This is why a rope-drop plan is worth more at Hollywood Studios than anywhere else at Walt Disney World, and why Magic Kingdom forgives a slow morning in a way Hollywood Studios does not.
Where the parks put their worst hour
The gap tells you how much timing matters. Where the worst hour sits tells you what to do about it.
- Hollywood Studios peaks at noon (37.1 minutes) and does not get back near its morning floor until 9pm (20.9) and 10pm (20.8). The middle of the day is one long plateau above 29 minutes.
- Animal Kingdom peaks at 11am (26.9 minutes) and then falls steadily all afternoon — 21 at 2pm, 17.6 at 4pm, 12.4 at 7pm. It is the only Disney park whose best hour is in the evening rather than at open or close.
- EPCOT barely moves. From 8am (25.3) to 7pm (26.6) the park-wide average sits in a narrow band, with a mild 11am high of 28.8 and a real drop only at 10pm (18.4).
- Magic Kingdom has two humps, not one: 20.2 at noon, a dip to 17.9 at 2pm, then a second and slightly higher peak at 6pm (20.5).
EPCOT's flatness is the useful outlier. If your Hollywood Studios morning falls apart, the day is meaningfully worse. If your EPCOT morning falls apart, you have lost far less, and the evening is genuinely on your side.

That order is the ranking by percentage, which is why SeaWorld Orlando sits on top — a park whose opening hour averages 4.6 minutes will produce a huge percentage no matter what happens later. In minutes, the order is different: Epic Universe leads at 21.9, Hollywood Studios follows at 18.7, and SeaWorld drops to third at 16.2.

How to use this when you build a week
- Spend your best morning at Hollywood Studios. It has the largest minute-for-minute penalty for a late start of any Disney park, and its worst hour lands at noon, when families are least likely to be moving efficiently.
