Expedition Everest Just Lost Its Single Rider Line

Expedition Everest no longer has a single rider line. The change took effect Monday, September 21, 2026, with Saturday, September 20 as the attraction's last day offering it, as Disney confirmed to Disney Tourist Blog and reported by KennythePirate. Single rider signage at the attraction comes down, and Everest disappears from the single rider listing on Disney's website and in the app.

This is not a temporary closure or a capacity adjustment. The line is gone.

Why Disney says it ended

Disney spent several months testing a different way of loading the ride. Cast members now sort guests in the standby queue into odd- and even-numbered parties before boarding — even-numbered groups to the left, odd-numbered to the right — according to Disney Tourist Blog's account of the change.

That sorting does the job single riders used to do. A party of three and a party of one no longer need to be stitched together at the load platform, because the queue has already been arranged so groups fill rows cleanly. Disney's stated reasoning is that the testing "resulted in lower average wait times," and that with the standby line running more efficiently, the single rider line "no longer provided the guest experience riders have come to expect from Single Rider lines."

The practical version: when the ride stops needing seat fillers, it stops calling them. Single riders were being pulled less often and waiting longer for the privilege. Mickey Visit reported the same explanation when the news broke on September 18.

Where Everest's standby line actually sits

Everest averages 18.3 minutes — sixth at Animal Kingdom, and well under half of Avatar Flight of Passage's 41.1. For a headliner coaster with a Yeti, that is a genuinely modest standby wait, and it is the main reason the single rider line mattered less here than it does at, say, Test Track.

The hour you pick matters more than the queue you pick:

Ride it at 8am and you wait 6.5 minutes. Ride it at noon and you wait 32.9 — 26.4 minutes longer, or roughly five times the morning figure. No single rider line was ever worth as much as that gap. The one that just closed certainly wasn't.

What single rider is left at Disney World

Four attractions still run single rider lines, two of them reliably:

1. Test Track (EPCOT) — the most valuable one left, given Test Track's 60.3-minute average.
2. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets (Hollywood Studios) — 43.5-minute average.
3. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (Hollywood Studios) — 22.2-minute average.
4. Soarin' Around the World and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance — offered occasionally rather than daily, per KennythePirate's rundown.

Notice which park is missing: Magic Kingdom does not offer single rider on any attraction, and this change does not alter that.

What to do differently at Animal Kingdom

1. Move Everest to the first hour. With single rider gone, the cheapest version of this ride is the 8am one — 6.5 minutes against a 32.9-minute noon figure.
2. Do not save it for lunchtime. Noon is Everest's single worst hour, and 11am is Animal Kingdom's worst hour park-wide at 26.9 minutes.
3. If you arrive late, go late. Animal Kingdom's park-wide average falls to 12.4 minutes at 7pm, its lightest hour of the day.
4. Reserve Lightning Lane spending for Pandora. Flight of Passage averages more than twice Everest's wait. That is where paid access buys back the most time.
