14 Disney Rides Closed in May 2026

14 Disney Rides Closed in May 2026

Disney closed 14 rides across its Florida parks in May 2026. That follows 16 closures in April — 30 attractions taken offline across two months, more than the total ride count at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure combined.

Disney has not published the full list of the 14 May closures. Here is what is confirmed, and why the number looks so high.

A theater closure that took out two attractions at once

Palais du Cinema, the theater in EPCOT's France pavilion, closed for refurbishment. Because both films it houses run out of the same building, that single closure took two separate guest experiences off the board: Impressions de France and the Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along. Neither has a reopening date confirmed.

Closures that were really reopenings in disguise

Part of why April and May look so heavy on closures is that several long-down attractions used this exact window to come back — which means the ride that had been "closed" for months finally left the list, while a different version of it, or an adjacent one, took its place.

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopened May 4, after closing in January 2025. The refurbishment added new track, new ride vehicles, and a new Rainbow Caverns scene.
  • Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets opened May 26 at Hollywood Studios, replacing the Aerosmith-themed version with Jim Henson puppets and celebrity musician guest stars. It carries Lightning Lane Tier 1.
  • Soarin' Across America launched May 26 at EPCOT — the third reimagining of Soarin', themed to the United States' 250th anniversary. The prior Soarin' version had to close for the changeover.
  • Bluey's Wild World debuted May 26 at Animal Kingdom's Conservation Station, running on a virtual queue rather than a standby line.
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run added a new Mandalorian and Grogu mission on May 22, without a park closure but with real downtime for the retrofit.
  • Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin reopened April 8 with an overhauled ride experience, part of April's 16 closures.

So the closure counts are real, but they are not all bad news for visitors. A meaningful share of April and May's "closed" tally is Disney mid-transition on rides that came back better within the same month or two.

What it means for your visit

If you are planning a Magic Kingdom or Hollywood Studios day around a specific attraction, check its status before you build a plan — a ride that was down in April may already be running again by the time you visit. Big Thunder Mountain currently averages 27.4 minutes in our wait-time data, which puts it in the middle of Magic Kingdom's pack rather than among the worst.

For EPCOT, expect the France pavilion to feel different without its theater running, and expect the Soarin' pavilion — relaunched as Soarin' Across America — to draw a look from returning guests curious about the new theme.
