Disney vs Universal in 2026: Who Really Has Worse Lines?

Magic Kingdom's best hour narrowly beats every other Orlando park, Universal included — an 11.3-minute average at 8am. But at the other extreme, the single longest average wait in Orlando isn't at Disney at all: it's Mine-Cart Madness at Epic Universe, averaging 81.1 minutes — longer than EPCOT's Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (69.5 min) and every other ride we track. Here's what the data says about who actually has it worse.

1. Magic Kingdom is the calmest park at its best hour — barely

Park Best hour Avg wait
Magic Kingdom 8am 11.3 min
Animal Kingdom 7pm 13.5 min
EPCOT 10pm 19.5 min
Hollywood Studios 8am 20.5 min
Universal Studios Florida 10pm 11.5 min
SeaWorld Orlando 8am 4.6 min
Islands of Adventure 9am 14 min
Epic Universe 9pm 21.8 min

Magic Kingdom's 11.3-minute best hour edges out Universal Studios Florida's 11.5-minute best hour by a fraction of a minute. It's close enough that "Disney wins the best-hour race" is true, but only just.

2. Hollywood Studios is Disney's worst offender — and it beats Universal's classic parks for it

Hollywood Studios' worst hour hits 40 minutes at noon. That's worse than Universal Studios Florida's worst hour (24.8 min) and Islands of Adventure's worst hour (24.1 min) combined into one park. If you're picking the single toughest classic park to navigate at midday, it's a Disney park, not a Universal one.

3. The most volatile line in Orlando belongs to Disney, not Universal

Here's how much each park's worst hour exceeds its best hour:

Park Worst hour vs best hour
Animal Kingdom +129%
Magic Kingdom +101%
Hollywood Studios +95%
EPCOT +55%
Universal Studios Florida +116%
Epic Universe +110%
Islands of Adventure +72%

Animal Kingdom's swing from a 13.5-minute best hour to a 30.9-minute worst hour is the biggest yo-yo of any park in this comparison — bigger than either Universal Studios Florida or Epic Universe.

4. Universal's newest park is also its longest line

Epic Universe's worst hour averages 45.8 minutes at noon — the highest worst-hour figure of any park in this comparison, Disney included. Its headliner, Mine-Cart Madness, peaks at a 134-minute hourly average. No Disney attraction in our data comes close to that peak figure.

5. Islands of Adventure quietly beats three of four Disney parks

Islands of Adventure's worst hour (24.1 min) is lower than Hollywood Studios (40 min), EPCOT (30.3 min), and Animal Kingdom (30.9 min). Only Magic Kingdom's worst hour (22.7 min) beats it.

The verdict

It depends what you're counting. Classic Universal — Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure — runs calmer than three of Disney's four gates at their worst hour. But once Epic Universe enters the picture, Universal's portfolio owns both the single longest ride wait and the single worst park-wide hour in Orlando. If someone asks "who has worse lines" without specifying which parks, the honest answer is: Universal's newest park skews the whole comparison.
