SeaWorld Orlando Wait Times: The Park Where One Hour Decides Everything

Magic Kingdom's busiest hour averages a 20.5-minute wait. SeaWorld Orlando's busiest hour averages 20.8 — functionally the same ceiling. The two parks part company at the other end of the day: Magic Kingdom's quietest hour is 11.5 minutes, SeaWorld's is 4.6.
That is the whole story of SeaWorld Orlando in two numbers. Its worst hour can feel like a Disney park. Its best hour feels like a park that has not opened yet. No park in Orlando rewards arriving early, or punishes a lunchtime arrival, by anything close to the same margin.
How SeaWorld's day compares to the Disney parks
| Park | Best hour | Worst hour | Gap (min) | Worst ÷ best |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Magic Kingdom | 8am (11.5) | 6pm (20.5) | 9.0 | 1.8x |
| EPCOT | 10pm (18.4) | 11am (28.8) | 10.4 | 1.6x |
| Hollywood Studios | 8am (18.4) | 12pm (37.1) | 18.7 | 2.0x |
| Animal Kingdom | 7pm (12.4) | 11am (26.9) | 14.5 | 2.2x |
| SeaWorld Orlando | 8am (4.6) | 1pm (20.8) | 16.2 | 4.5x |
Hollywood Studios gives up more raw minutes to bad timing — 18.7 against SeaWorld's 16.2. But a Hollywood Studios morning still costs you 18.4 minutes a ride. A SeaWorld morning costs 4.6. Proportionally, the 1pm hour at SeaWorld is 4.5 times its own 8am figure (20.8 ÷ 4.6), the steepest ratio of any Orlando park in our wait-time data.
The hour-by-hour shape
| Hour | Avg wait (min) |
|---|---|
| 8am | 4.6 |
| 9am | 5.8 |
| 10am | 9.6 |
| 11am | 12.2 |
| 12pm | 15.3 |
| 1pm | 20.8 |
| 2pm | 18.3 |
| 3pm | 16.1 |
| 4pm | 16.1 |
| 5pm | 14.2 |
| 6pm | 12.2 |
| 7pm | 10.5 |
| 8pm | 10.1 |
| 9pm | 9.3 |
| 10pm | 9.9 |
The climb is slow and then sudden. From 8am to 11am the park adds 7.6 minutes (12.2 − 4.6). From 11am to 1pm it adds 8.6 more in half the time. After the 1pm peak the decline is steady but never returns to the morning floor — 9.3 minutes at 9pm is still twice the 8am figure.
Every SeaWorld attraction, ranked by average wait
| Attraction | Zone | Avg wait (min) | Peak hourly avg |
|---|---|---|---|
| Expedition Odyssey | Sea of Power | 29.1 | 88 |
| Infinity Falls | Sea of Fun | 17.2 | 79 |
| Penguin Trek | Sea of Ice | 16.6 | 78 |
| Journey to Atlantis | Sea of Legends | 14.6 | 73 |
| Ice Breaker | Sea of Power | 13.5 | 59 |
| Manta | Sea of Shallows | 12.6 | 59 |
| Pipeline: The Surf Coaster | Sea of Power | 12.4 | 52 |
| Mako | Sea of Mystery | 8.1 | 43 |
| Flamingo Paddle Boats | Sea of Mystery | 6.5 | 14 |
| Kraken | Sea of Legends | 6.5 | 36 |
| Abby's Flower Tower | Sesame Street | 6.1 | 10 |
| Sky Tower | Sea of Delight | 6.1 | 10 |
| Elmo's Choo Choo Train | Sesame Street | 5.5 | 10 |
| Super Grover's Box Car Derby | Sesame Street | 5.3 | 9 |
| Cookie Drop | Sesame Street | 5.2 | 9 |
| Sunny Day Carousel | Sesame Street | 5.2 | 9 |
| Slimey's Slider | Sesame Street | 5.0 | 9 |
One attraction carries the park. Expedition Odyssey's 29.1-minute average is 11.9 minutes clear of second place, and its peak hourly average of 88 minutes is the longest single-hour figure at SeaWorld. For context, that peak is longer than Avatar Flight of Passage's 83-minute peak at Animal Kingdom.
Below the top four, the averages collapse into single digits and stay there. Nine attractions average under 7 minutes.
The five-coaster lap, priced two ways
SeaWorld's coasters are unusually agreeable about timing: every one of them bottoms out at 8am or 9am.
| Coaster | Best hour | Best avg | Worst hour | Worst avg |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ice Breaker | 9am | 4.4 | 1pm | 25.4 |
| Manta | 8am | 4.6 | 11am | 19.5 |
| Pipeline: The Surf Coaster | 9am | 5.1 | 1pm | 18.8 |
| Mako | 8am | 4.6 | 3pm | 12.5 |
| Kraken | 9am | 4.5 | 3pm | 9.3 |
Ride all five at their best hours and the queue time adds up to 23.2 minutes (4.4 + 4.6 + 5.1 + 4.6 + 4.5). Ride the same five at each one's worst hour and it comes to 85.5 (25.4 + 19.5 + 18.8 + 12.5 + 9.3). The difference is 62.3 minutes — an hour of standing, bought by the order you walk the park in.
Two caveats worth stating plainly. These are five separate best hours, and you cannot stand in two queues at once, so a real morning lap lands somewhere above 23.2 minutes. And the figures are averages for the hour, not a promise about the day you go.
The water rides swing hardest
Infinity Falls runs 4.1 minutes at 9am and 32.9 at 1pm — a jump of 28.8 minutes, and eight times its own floor. Journey to Atlantis goes from 4.6 at 8am to 22.8 at 3pm. Both sit well into double digits through the middle of the afternoon and well under 5 minutes before 10am.
Expedition Odyssey behaves differently. Its best hour is 10am, not 8am, and even then it averages 16 minutes — the only SeaWorld attraction whose floor is above 10 minutes. At 1pm it reaches 40.8. If you only plan one thing at this park, plan this ride first and accept that its best hour is still a real wait.
Sesame Street ignores the clock
All six Sesame Street attractions average between 5.0 and 6.1 minutes, and their best and worst hours sit within about two minutes of each other. Slimey's Slider runs 4.4 minutes at its best hour and 5.4 at its worst. Super Grover's Box Car Derby: 4.0 and 5.7.
For families with small children, that is the useful finding. The kids' area does not need a plan. Spend the 8am–11am window on the coasters and the water rides, then move to Sesame Street in the middle of the afternoon when everything else is at its most expensive.
Which day to go
| Day | Avg wait (min) |
|---|---|
| Sunday | 17.9 |
| Monday | 12.6 |
| Tuesday | 8.1 |
| Wednesday | 7.2 |
| Thursday | 8.1 |
| Friday | 11.9 |
| Saturday | 21.4 |
Wednesday averages 7.2 minutes across the park. Saturday averages 21.4 — close to three times as much (21.4 ÷ 7.2 = 3.0x), and a wider day-to-day spread than any Disney park shows. A Saturday at SeaWorld runs longer, on average, than a Saturday at Magic Kingdom (20.7).
The plan, in four lines
- Be there at opening. The 8am hour averages 4.6 minutes. There is no second window like it.
- Expedition Odyssey first, then the water rides, then the coasters — biggest floor first.
- Treat 12pm–3pm as show and Sesame Street time. The park's three most expensive hours are 1pm (20.8), 2pm (18.3) and 3pm (16.1).
- Pick a Wednesday if you can, and avoid a Saturday if you have any choice at all.
