Should You Do Two Orlando Parks in One Day?

Magic Kingdom's typical wait bottoms out at 11.3 minutes at 8am. By the time a two-park itinerary would have you arriving at your second stop of the day, most Orlando parks are already well past their best hour. That's the real cost of a two-park day: not the drive or the ticket, but the low-wait window you give up in whichever park you visit second.
Short answer: it depends which two parks. Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure share a walkway through CityWalk, so hopping between them costs minutes, not an hour of driving. Pairing two Walt Disney World parks is riskier, because getting from one to the other by bus, monorail, or Skyliner eats into the morning hours that make rope drop worth it in the first place. Epic Universe is its own case — it runs its own admission and its own crowd rhythm, and its midday wait is high enough that treating it as a "second park" after lunch is a bad trade.
What the wait patterns show, park by park
| Park | Best hour (avg wait) | Worst hour (avg wait) |
|---|---|---|
| Magic Kingdom | 8am — 11.3 min | 7pm — 22.7 min |
| EPCOT | 10pm — 19.5 min | 11am — 30.3 min |
| Hollywood Studios | 8am — 20.5 min | 12pm — 40 min |
| Animal Kingdom | 7pm — 13.5 min | 12pm — 30.9 min |
| Universal Studios Florida | 10pm — 11.5 min | 3pm — 24.8 min |
| Islands of Adventure | 9am — 14 min | 12pm — 24.1 min |
| Epic Universe | 9pm — 21.8 min | 12pm — 45.8 min |
Notice the pattern: almost every park's best hour is early morning or late evening, and the worst hour lands right in the middle of the day — exactly when you'd be in transit for a park-hop. Arrive at your second park at noon, and you're walking into Hollywood Studios' 40-minute average or Epic Universe's 45.8-minute average, not its best hour.
When two parks in one day makes sense
- Universal Studios Florida + Islands of Adventure: the connected layout means you can chase both parks' best hours (10pm and 9am respectively) without losing time to transportation. This is the pairing most likely to work.
- Magic Kingdom in the morning, something else at night: Magic Kingdom's best hour is 8am and Animal Kingdom's is 7pm, so a rope-drop-then-evening split can catch two genuinely good windows if the transfer is quick.
- Epic Universe alone: its worst hour (45.8 min) is the highest of any park in this data set. Save it for a full day rather than a half-day add-on.
If you do split a day, check the live picture before you commit — a wait-times overview beats guessing.
